In January of this year my father-in-law had a cancerous tumor removed from his thyroid. He has had both radiation and chemotherapy treatments and is undergoing voice therapy for damaged vocal chords. He is such a fighter and an inspiration to us all. He is also a Baptist minister by profession. Having damaged vocal chords has made his profession quite difficult, but this has not stopped him. I know he gets frustrated at times, but I know he will keep at the fight. I wanted to make something special to cheer him and show him our love for his strength and faith in God. I found these great panels from Block Party Studios and a great pattern to go with it called “What Cancer Cannot Do”. I love the sentiment and inspiration of these blocks. I found some really nice batiks at my local quilt shop Cottonwood, and the rest is history.
Here’s a photo of the finished quilt.
I did free-motion quilting with my Bernina 830 (this was before my wonderful Quilt Motion purchase) with Superior Threads – King Tut thread.
Here’s a close up of a few of the blocks.
We love you Dad and you are a great example to all of us what being a fighter is all about! Your complete recovery is our prayer!
Until next time, happy sewing & quilting…
