A Place to Share Sewing & Quilting Experiences

I wanted to share these two new quilt tops that I have pieced and that are ready for the Bernina Quilt Frame.  They were both patterns I got last year at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton Va in February 2011.  They are made from one Bali Pop each.  Hopefully I will get them on the frame and have fun quilting them very soon.  I just have to calculate and purchase the backing…of course and plan the quilt design.  I have been very anxious to try driving the quilt frame myself instead of using the Quilt Motion software, but haven’t quite gotten up my nerve.  I have no trouble doing free motion with the BSR foot on both of my Bernina machines.  I guess I’m a little nervous about driving the big handles and keeping a smooth motion.  I really should have a “fake” quilt to practice on, but that goes against my nature.

Here is top #1.  Love the beautiful colors of the Bali Pops and can’t wait to plan the quilting.  This quilt was made from the Sherbert Bali Pop.

Here is top #2 with more rich colors.  Lots of potential here too. This quilt was made from the Mango Margarita Bali Pop.

I finally finished the Christmas poinsettia quilt “party poppers” that I posted a while back.  Will post the photos and story of this quilt as soon as I get the camera hooked up to the computer.  That will be my next story.

A friend I work with hosted a quilt retreat at her house last weekend.  I was only able to go on Saturday, but it was so much fun.  I got to meet a couple new quilters and get two new tops pieced.  One was an applique embroidery quilt I had promised to make for my niece for her Sweet Sixteen birthday which was in October of 2011.  The second top was another project for “Quilts for Kids” to donate to the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.  I finished the quilting and binding of the birthday quilt this weekend, so will have photos of that too (once I give it to her).  Don’t want to spoil the surprise do I?

Until next time…happy sewing, quilting and embroidery.
